You could try taking a look at the info <a href="http://communities.vmware.com/message/783782">here</a>, or post a question on the <a href="http://communities.vmware.com/">VMware Forum</a>. An alternative (if you get nowhere with the above) might be to try a pre-configured <a href="http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/1066">Ubuntu VM</a> with the vmware tools already installed. Sorry, but i’ve no idea on that one - i’m using VMware Fusion on a Mac, they’re slightly different products.

You could try taking a look at the info here, or post a question on the VMware Forum.

An alternative (if you get nowhere with the above) might be to try a pre-configured Ubuntu VM with the vmware tools already installed.
